The Dress Circle: Four More Original Television Musicals

If you’re a fan of musicals written expressly for television, we’ll have four more for you on this week’s Dress Circle (4/8 7:00 p.m.).  Our first seems be on its way to a Broadway production, but it had its start on the cult-favorite television series “Smash.”  The musical is titled “Bombshell” by Marc Shaiman and Scott M. Riesett.

There will be performances by Katharine McPhee, Meagan Hilty, and Bernadette Peters.  This will be followed by songs from “Little Women,” a 1958 musical by Richard Adler and performances by Jeanne Carson, Florence Henderson, and Rise Stevens.  After that, we’ll mover to 1966 and an all-star version of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” by Moose Charlap and Elsie Simmons with performances by Nanette Frabray, Tom and Dick Smothers, Judi Rolin, Jimmy Durante, and Agnes Moorehead.  Finally, we’ll turn to another cult favorite series and the 2002 musical that was a part of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”  “Once More with Feeling” has music and lyrics by Joss Whedon, and includes vocals by Sarah Michelle Geller, Allison Hannigan, Anthony Head, Nicholas Brandon Dawn, Emma Caulfield, and James Masters.  Join us for what we promise will be a diverse evening of great songs each Sunday evening.  Don’t forget to join us on Facebook and “like” our page!

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
