A Tempo: Celebrating the Moon Walk Through Music

NASA on the Commons

July 20 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing and walk, and this week's A Tempo looks at how the event is being celebrated musically. Carnegie Hall will present We Chose to Go To The Moon, a multi-media presentation featuring photos, video and interview footage, performances of moon-related music by The Orchestra of St. Lukes, and narrated and created by historian John Monsky. Host Rachel Katz speaks with Monsky about the inspiration for the program, part of his American History Unbound series.

This week's program also features a preview of the 2019 Summer Jazz Institute sponsored by the Mercer County Community College Music Department, with an interview with department coordinator Scott Hornick and students Matt Gargiullo and Jillian Ashcraft.

Trumpeter Terell Stafford is the featured guest artist at this year's Summer Jazz Institute at Mercer County Community College.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
