A Tempo: Capturing 2020 in Voice and Music

Courtesy of Lisa Bielawa

Throughout 2020, musicians sought various ways to capture the sounds, thoughts and experiences of 2020, from the isolation and loss of Covid-19 to the outburst of frustration, anger and desire for social justice that emerged after the killing of George Floyd. Among the new creations that emerged was composer Lisa Bielawa's Broadcast From Home, for which she invited people to submit their thoughts and feelings, which she then wove together in a series of short compositions and posted in weekly chapters exploring the sense of isolation, fear and loss, as well as longing and hope for what would we will be like when we come out of all of this. Host Rachel Katz profiled the project on "On a Positive Note" this past Spring, and this Saturday (1/2 at 7 pm) on A Tempo, she checks back in with the composer to talk about how the series, now on hiatus, summed up our collective experience of 2020 - and provided glimpses of hope for the future.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
