A Tempo: Youth Ensembles Enjoy Return, Look Ahead

Musicians in youth ensembles are eager to get back to in-person rehearsals and performances, and this Saturday (7/24 at 7 pm), A Tempo catches up with two of them. Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra ensembles (NYO-USA, NYO-2 for slighhtly younger students and NYO-Jazz) are back this summer, with musicians gathering on the campus of SUNY-Purchase for workshops, sectionals and rehearsals, after the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 season. A Tempo host Rachel Katz will chat with two of them - drummer Koleby Royston of Piscataway, NJ, who is participating in NYO-Jazz, and NYO-USA horn player Samantha Strickland of Bridgewater, NJ - about the summer program and the joy of returning to live music-making.

This week's A Tempo will also include an interview with Jessica Morel, who is taking up the baton as Music Director at the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, about her hopes for the upcoming season and a new collaboration with Westminster Conservatory.

Jessica Morel is the new Music Director of the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
