Musician Joseph Arthur has been making records for years, but his breakthrough came in 2000 when the moody pop CD Come to Where I'm From was named album of the year by Entertainment Weekly. Since then, the New York City-based musician has earned a loyal following and continued critical acclaim.
Arthur's fourth full-length CD is called Our Shadows Will Remain. Day to Day music critic Christian Bordal recently caught a live performance of Arthur in Los Angeles, and shares this impression of the musician and his stage presence:
"It's funny how you can listen to some artist's records for years, but it's not until you see them live that you start to understand who the artist is -- to see their musical essence, their musical soul.
"Live, Joseph Arthur creates a kind of dynamic swirl of noise that somehow appears almost magically all around him. It seems to inhabit the space he inhabits. And it's through that drone, that musical miasma, that he threads his sweet and acerbic melodies."
