“Going off the beaten path means many things,” says Distler. “For example, you’ll hear a significant 18th-century composer whose name you’ve never encountered, yet her music looks daringly forward. Then there's a well-known mathematician who wrote exquisite piano music in his spare time. How about a Liszt pupil known for his Beethoven playing, or an utterly original and truly iconoclastic Estonian composer whose piano sonatas are totally weird and wonderful? That's what I mean by going off the beatn path."
Fair enough. Yet who are all of these composers and pianists? “That’s for me to know, and you to find out when you listen to Between the Keys this Tuesday night at 10, or Wednesday at noon!,” says Distler.
