For this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler replicates a playlist from one of David Dubal’s The Piano Matters episodes, offering the same works in alternative performances.
“Yes, it’s a rather cheeky idea,” Distler says. “But it was fun to put myself in David’s mindset, and to see what would happen if I appropriated his programming savvy, but using different recordings than those which he aired. Furthermore, listeners will soon be able to access both my episode and David’s original episode as webcasts, and have a chance to compare how differently we present and respond to the same repertoire.”
