The Dress Circle: All-Star Music Man

The Broadway community is working extremely hard to reopen and thrill audiences again.  There are a few shows to which people are looking forward and we’re going to welcome one of those on this week’s Dress Circle (1/26 7:00 p.m.) with an all-star version of Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” to welcome Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman in the third Broadway revival of this perennial favorite.   The premier production opened on December 19, 1957 at the Majestic Theatre and would go on to run for 1,375 performances.   Of course, the first Harold Hill and Marion Paroo were Robert Preston and Barbara Cook, and Preston would go on to do the film version with Shirley Jones as well.

To celebrate Hill’s return, we’ll be looking at six different recordings for tonight’s program including the two above and the 2000 Broadway revival, the original 1961 West End cast (which featured Van Johnson as Hill), and studio cast recordings from 1996 and 2006.

Spend a happy hour with us and the score of a musical that’s been loved for nearly seven decades.
