The Dress Circle: Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with the Musicals

We love “calendar art,” and with St. Patrick’s Day in the offing, this week’s Dress Circle (3/14 7:00 p.m.) is celebrating things “Irish” through the lens of the musical.  We’ll sample songs from the early 20th century by Nora Bayes, George M. Cohan, and Victor Herbert to more modern fare penned by Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green, and Johnny Burke, and Marc Blitzstein.  Some of the shows include “Eileen,” “The Jolly Bachelors,” “50 Miles from Boston,” “Meet Me in St. Louis,” “Donnybrook!,” and even a musicalization of Sean O’Casey’s “Juno and the Paycock” entitled simply “Juno.” “The Irish Will Have a Great Day Tonight” while singing about their “Little Irish Rose” with a “Touch of the Irish” through some “Old Sayins.”  “The Loveable Irish” may get into a right “Donnybrook,” but they’re sure to find “Something Sort of Grandish” “On a Day Like This.”  Grab a green beverage if you must, but tune in for some Irish musical treats on this week’s program.
