The Dress Circle: Four New Musicals from The York Theatre Company

The 3/18

(7:00 p.m.) Dress Circle will feature recordings produced by The York Theatre Company which, for over 48 years, has been dedicated to the production of New Musicals, and through their Musicals in Mufti Series, concert performances of forgotten shows.  Ted Otten and Michael Kownacky have found and will be sampling four recordings of shows presented by The York Theatre Company on this week’s program.

Those shows include “Busker Alley” by the Sherman Brothers of Disney fame about the British buskers or street performers who continued to perform throughout the Blitz, “No Way to Treat a Lady” which is based on the cult film about a bizarre serial-killer, the over-the-top farce “Lucky Stiff” by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty centering around the machinations of a desperate family trying to acquire an inheritance by taking the embalmed body of a dead uncle to Monte Carlo on a vacation, and “Enter Laughing” a re-working of the musical GOODBYE 174th STREET based on the novel by Carl Reiner about his beginnings in show business.   Join us for some unfamiliar and charming works on this week’s program.

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
