The Dress Circle: Songs from the Shows of November

Chrysanthemums are said to represent happiness, love, and joy, and yellow topazes are the stones of hospitality, friendship, and harmony, so they’re the perfect representatives for November which is the true gateway of the season of giving.   We’ll be focusing on the harmony aspect of Topazes on this week’s Dress Circle (11/7 7:00 p.m.) for a selection of shows that opened in New York spanning some 116 years from 1904’s “Little Johnny Jones” by George M. Cohan to the current hit, 2020’s “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.”   The majority of the shows we’re featuring this week are well-known and long running works such as “The Lion King” which is entering it’s 24th year as well as “Jersey Boys,” “Mary Poppins,” “Billy Elliot – The Musical,” and “Grand Hotel.”

We’re also featuring on some older favorites such as “The Sound of Music,” “Cabaret,” and “The Man of La Mancha,” and we’ve also got a song from another of the “newer” shows, 2013’s “Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” a brilliant, darkly comic musicalization of the 1949 film “Kind Hearts and Coronets.”

Once again, we’ve planned “something for everyone” and have an hour of great performances that are sure to please.
