The “Ideal” Chopin Waltzes on Between the Keys March 30th and 31st

On this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence features the fourteen Chopin Waltzes.

“What I’ve decided to do is to pick one pianist for each waltz, totaling fourteen pianists in all,” Distler says.” As it happened, most of them are dead and historic. But I did get in four who are alive and well, and possibly historic! All of the pianists represent a multitude of generations, styles and orientations. I think it’s illuminating to hear Chopin from such different  yet equally valid vantage points.”

Pianists include Jan Smeterlin, Josef Hofmann, Rudolf Buchbinder, Alfred Cortot, Moriz Rosenthal, Ruth Slenczynska, Bella Davidovich, Solomon, Vladimir Horowitz, Sergei Rachmaninov, Eliane Reyes, Vladimir Sofronitsky, Robert Lortat, and Dinu Lipatti.

Tune in for “The Ideal Chopin 14 Waltzes,” Episode 301 of Between the Keys,  this Tuesday March 30th at 10 PM with a rebroadcast Wednesday March 31st at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
