Have you ever wondered just how a grand piano is created? If your answer is yes, a fabulous opportunity awaits you on December 10. WWFM is pleased to partner with Jacobs Music in Lawrenceville for another tour of the world-famous Steinway & Sons Factory in Astoria, Queens.
We'll depart by motor coach from the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College at approximately 7 am on Monday, December 10. We'll arrive at the factory in time to view the amazing rim-bending process - one of the first steps to transorm specially chosen wood into the iconic form that we know as the shape of a Steinway grand piano. Your guided tour will include stops at the major production stations within the factory: the raw wood collection and rim-bending area; the fitting of the soundboard and harp; the intricate process of installing the keys and hammers; and tuning a newly built piano.
Lunch will be provided following the tour on-site at the factory. From there, we'll travel to mid-town Manhattan to the Steinway Showroom on 6th Avenue. There you'll be able to view pianos recently built at the Steinway Factory you have visited earlier in the day.
As a special treat, WWFM personalities David Dubal, host of The Piano Matters, and Jed Distler, host of Between the Keys and Kids on Keys, will join us at the showroom for a meet and greet, and to perform on the piano. In addition, Jed will demonstrate the Spirio piano, Steinway's high-resolution player piano. We will return to the MCCC campus at approximately 6 pm.

Please note: The Steinway Factory is a large, working factory. The tour includes 3-4 flights of stairs. You must be able to stand and walk for approximately one and half to two hours. The minimum age is 16 to participate in the tour. Participants may be exposed to dust and chemical odors.
