The Leschetizky Legacy on Between the Keys June 11th

On this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler examines the legacy of legendary 19th century piano pedagogue Thedor Leschetizky through recordings by his students, both famous and obscure.

“Because Leschetizky apparently encouraged his pupils to seek out and cultivate their individuality,” says Distler. “they all played differently. At the same time, Leschetizky valued the importance of having a beautiful tone, and that seems to be a trait that all of his pupils shared, at least those who lived to make recordings."

Featured pianists include Artur Schnabel, Ignaz Friedman, Benno Moiseiwitsch, Richard Singer, Frank Merrick, Auguste de Radwan, Aline von Barentzen. Ossip Gabrilowitsch, Mark Hambourg and Alexander Brailowsky.

Tune in Tuesday June 11th at 10 PM for Between the Keys, a program proudly sponsored by Jacobs Music Company, and an exclusive production of The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
