A Musical Melting Pot on Between the Keys June 23rd

On this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler presents a veritable melting pot of music and musicians.

Selections include works by William Byrd, Terry Riley, Eleanor Alberga, Sara Feigin, Terry Riley, George Crumb, Frederic Chopin, Elena Ruehr, Gerald Busby and Bela Bartok, along with Erroll Garner’s unique take on Chopin’s C-sharp Minor Waltz.

“From the start, Between the Keys has been about building musical bridges,” says Distler. “Not only in terms of repertoire and genre, but in regard to pianists and interpreters who embrace a wide range of style, orientation and performance traditions. So I want fans of historic standard repertoire recordings to get out of their comfort zone and try some new music. Yet I also want my new music pianist colleagues to appreciate their counterparts of the past. I guess I want everyone in our piano community to love one another!”
