The Sunday Opera: Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo" from the Royal Danish Opera

Join us on a trip to the Royal Danish Opera on this week’s Sunday Opera (9/13 3:00 p.m.) and their recent production of Claudio Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” to begin an afternoon of music based on the Orpheus legend.   Marc Mauillon is the legendary singer and Sofie Lund-Tonnesen his beloved Eurydice.  They’re joined in this production by Ellen Larsson, Philippa Cold, Mia Berstrom and Thomas LIchtenecker with Concerto Copenhagen conducted by Lark Ulrik Mortensen.

The remainder of the afternoon will feature the complete score to Hilding Rosenberg’s ballet “Orpheus in Town,” an updated version following Orpheus’ travels through the streets of modern Stockholm, and an oratorio by Yannis Markopoulos entitled “The Liturgy of Orpheus” featuring Jose Van Dam and Elena Kelessidi with narration by Philip Sheffield.  This week’s program features three very different approaches to a rather familiar story.

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
