You're invited to a birthday party on this week's Sunday Opera (1/27 3:00 p.m.) as we celebrate number 263 for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. As part of the celebrations that began on Friday, we'll be presenting four hours of his music with the centerpiece being an excellent live 1962 performance of "Le nozzi di Figaro" from Glyndebourne. Heinze Blankenburg is our cunning Figaro and his charming Susanna, Mirella Freni.
They're joined by Gabriel Bacquier as the lascivious Almaviva, Leyla Gencer as the loving Countess, Edith Mathis as the cheeky Cherubino, and Carlo Cava as the troublesome Bartolo. The Glyndebourne Chorus and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are directed by Silvio Varviso. Since this is a special celebration, David Osenberg with be co-hosting with Michael Kownacky, and you'll have the opportunity to join us in membership and get your own copy of this delightful performance as well as some other special gifts just for Mozart's special day.
