A Tempo: Aug. 19 - Princeton and Choral World Reel from Loss of American Boychoir

When the American Boychoir School abruptly announced its closing this past week, it sent shock waves through not only the local Princeton arts community, but the broader choral music world as well.  This week on A Tempo (Saturday at 7 pm), host Rachel Katz surveys some of the thoughts from around these worlds.

"In this day and age I think we should learn to cherish our artistic institutions, and I think what has happened to the American Boychoir can happen to any one of us at any turn. I think that's the lesson," said James Jordan, a professor at Rider University's Westminster Choir College and director of the Westminster Conducting Institute. "Support of the arts is as important now as it's ever been, and maybe even more so."

Rachel will speak with Jordan, Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert, and Chorus America President and CEO Catherine Dehoney about their thoughts on the demise of the Boychoir, which emerged from bankruptcy protection last year, and the impact and implications that has on the arts world at large. This week's program will also include an update on Rider University's search to find a buyer for Westminster Choir College amid its own financial struggles.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
