A Tempo: Philadelphia Orchestra Welcomes New Principal Librarian

There's a lot that has to happen before the musicians of an orchestra can take to the practice stage and the programs are printed, and much of that preparatory work is done by the orchestra's librarian. The Philadelphia Orchestra recently announced the appointment of Nicole Jordan as its new Principal Librarian, beginning in the Fall. Jordan, who grew up in Philadephia and was the orchestra's Library Fellow from 2008-2011 while earning her Masters in Music in music history from Temple University, will also be the first African-American woman to hold a full-time position with the orchestra. A Tempo host Rachel Katz this Saturday (7/4 at 7 pm) will speak with Jordan about the various roles an orchestra librarian plays and what she enjoys about her job.

The program will also feature an interview with violin Nathan Cole, First Associate Concertmaster for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, about his online Violympics project to help violinists and violists improve their technique and better prepare for performances.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
