Through demonstration and discussion, Kapilow presents a work or group of works by a well-known composer and shows us what makes this music great. This demonstration is followed by a complete performance of the work followed by a Q&A session with the audience. What Makes It Great host, composer, conductor, author and commentator Rob Kapilow takes a different path... or track... this Friday (5/3 at 8 pm) as he presents "Jazz on the Tracks: The Train in Classic Jazz from Miller to Marsalis" featuring music by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk and Wynton Marsalis. Joining Kapilow will be the Kyle Athayde Dance Party Big Band.

This concert was recorded in March at the home of What Makes it Great - Merkin Hall at the Kaurman Music Center.
