A Tempo: Author Ties in Piano Challenge to Novel

Author Andrea Buchanan brought together her discovery of a past family artistic legacy and experience as a piano performance major in writing her latest book, Five-Part Invention. The novel traces five generations of women, and the family secrets and musical legacy that weave their way through their lives. As part of the book release next month, Buchanan has invited pianist to post videos of themselves playing one or more of the musical works mentioned in the book on Instagram. A Tempo host Rachel Katz this week talks with Buchanan about the book, the challenge, and her own musical experience.
