Pianists You Should Know II

This week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys presents the second installment of a mini-series called “Pianists You Should Know.”

"Many wonderful pianists past and present tend to be forgotten about, ignored or simply unknown," says Jed Distler, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence who is the creator, producer and host of Between the Keys. "So I think it's a good thing for listeners to get to know such worthy keyboard artists."

Among selections scheduled for this week include a rare shellac disc of Denis Matthews playing Bach, André De Groote in Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 10 in G Op. 14 No. 2, plus music of Grieg and Palmgren played by France Ellegaard. Colin Horsley is featured in two Chopin Etudes and Prokofiev’s Third Sonata. And last but not least, the great Ilana Vered, with selections from her 1970 recording of Moszkowski’s 15 Virtuoso Etudes Op. 72.

"Why hasn't this amazing recording ever been reissued in its complete form?," Jed asks. "Or her mind-blowing Chopin Etudes for that matter? They've never been digitized, and that's a shame!"

Join Jed Distler for an hour of unsung yet truly worthy pianists on Between the Keys, this Tuesday at 10 PM, with the rebroadcast on Wednesday at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
