As a composer/pianist, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler feels a natural affinity with his fellow composer/pianists.
"It's a time-honored tradition," explains Jed. "Think of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Brahms, not to mention Rachmaninov, Bartok and Prokofiev. Perhaps the composer/pianist tradition dried up a bit in the mid-20th century, yet it did bounce back and today it thrives strongly."
More than a century's worth of composer/pianists are featured on this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, including Camille Saint-Saëns, Beata Moon, Mariel Mayz, Heather Schmidt, John La Montaine, Zez Confrey, Peter Dickinson, Duke Ellington, Nicolai Medtner, Anthony Newman, Frank La Forge and Nino Rota.
So join Jed Distler for an hour of "Captivating Creators" at the keyboard, this Friday afternoon at 3, with the rebroadcast Saturday evening at 6, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
