What do saints and shepherds have to do with one another?
The answer is simple: nothing!
So why a Between the Keys episode about saints and shepherds, then?
"I was just sitting at breakfast," explains Between the Keys' creator, producer and host Jed Distler, "and I started to wonder about pieces of music depicting shepherds, or had the word shepherd in the title. The same thing happened with the words saints. So I began digging through my collection, and I came up with mostly piano works, along with some songs"
Jed admits that his play list is a little offbeat. "But there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t often get heard, plus a couple of surprises that one ordinarily would never put on a piano music program. I mean, where else will you hear Bessie Smith and Laura Nyro mixed in with Virgil Thomson, Claude Debussy, Franz Schubert and G.I. Gurdjieff?"
Only on Between the Keys, of course!
So tune in to The Classical Network and WWFM.org this Friday at 3:00 PM, with the rebroadcast Saturday at 6:00 PM.
