The Classical Network is proud to offer bi-monthly broadcasts of the IRIS Orchestra, an innovative group led by its founding Artistic Director and Conductor, Michael Stern. Maestro Stern, son of the legendary violinist Isaac Stern, is one of the world's great conductors and currently also Music Director of the Kansas City Symphony. IRIS Orchestra is a unique and successful model among American orchestras. It is an elite ensemble comprised of some of the preeminent players from all corners of the country and abroad. IRIS musicians have traveled to Germantown, Tennessee for 17 years to rehearse and perform in an exceptional climate of collegiality, always making IRIS Orchestra a priority in their musical schedules. Since its inaugural concert in October 2000 with Yo-Yo Ma as soloist, IRIS has played an essential role throughout the Greater Memphis community and continues its mission of commissioning American composers, presenting thoughtful and interesting programming blending the best of old and new. Our broadcasts consist of concerts recorded live in Duncan Williams Performance Hall at The Germantown Performing Arts Center in Germantown, Tennessee. Great music, world-class soloists, top rank conductor and musicians and a fully supporting audience is a winning combination. Join us for these monthly broadcasts of the IRIS Orchestra, heard exclusively here on award-winning The Classical Network and wwfm.org.
