Picture Perfect: April 22 - Dueling Shakespeare

In advance of the birthday of William Shakespeare (observed), enjoy music from two complementary adaptations of Henry V. William Walton composed his now-classic score for Laurence Olivier in 1944. Hear selections from a recording that hews closer to the film’s original orchestrations than does the sanctioned concert suite, alongside a couple of Henry’s rousing speeches, declaimed by Olivier. Then Patrick Doyle is the baritone that initiates the choral showpiece “Non nobis domine,” capping his own acclaimed score for Kenneth Branagh’s directorial debut in 1989.
