The Lost Chord: June 5 - Come on in, the Water's Fine

There have been innumerable pieces of music written about water spirits – sirens, naiads, lorelei, and melusinas. To coincide with the Slavic observance of Rusalka Week, we’ll hear two of them: Carl Reinecke’s Flute Sonata “Undine,” inspired by the novel of Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, a favorite of the Romantics; and Lord Berners’ ballet, “Les Sirènes,” after a scenario by Frederick Ashton, with mermaids inhabiting the rocks at a seaside resort, while on shore, sirens of another sort behave coquettishly. Dip a toe in perilous waters, this Sunday at 10 pm.
