The Lost Chord: No Payne, No Gain

In 1934, as his health deteriorated, Sir Edward Elgar realized he would never be able to complete his third symphony. Several attempts were made over the decades to make something more of the sketches, but it was composer Anthony Payne who finally wore down the objections of Elgar’s heirs to produce a cohesive work of art.
