Picture Perfect: October 27 - To and From Mars

According to Orson Welles’ notorious radio dramatization, H.G. Wells’ Martians touched down in Grover’s Mill, NJ, not far from the studios of WWFM.  Join Ross Amico for music from film adaptations of Wells’ “The War of the Worlds” (by Leith Stevens and John Williams, respectively), alongside selections from “Robinson Crusoe on Mars” (Van Cleave) and “John Carter” (Michael Giacchino).  The interplanetary exchange program begins this Friday at 6 pm.

Join Ross Amico for music from “Hangover Square” (Bernard Herrmann), “The Beast with Five Fingers” (Max Steiner), “The Mephisto Waltz” (Jerry Goldsmith), and “The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T” (Frederick Hollander).  Practice makes psychotic, this Friday at 6 pm.

PostClassical this Friday (10/20) celebrates the music of the "most under-rated 20th-Century American composer," Bernard Herrmann.  Author, music historian and co-founder of PostClassical Ensemble Joseph Horowitz co-hosts this bi-monthly program with PostClassical Music Director Angel Gil-Ordonez and Exploring Music Host Bill McGlaughlin.  This week's broadcast will include performances by PostClassical Ensemble of Herrmann's Clarinet Quintet, Sinfonietta, and Psycho Narrative, as well as music from his radio play "Whitman" and his Cantata Moby Dick.

To the Batmobile!  With the death of Adam West – star of television’s “Batman” – on June 9, and “Wonder Woman” burning up the box office, Ross Amico will revisit the superhero genre, presenting music from both,  alongside selections from John Williams’ classic score for “Superman.”  In addition, West will introduce a medley of classic television superhero themes with the Cincinnati Pops.  Look, up in the sky!  It’s “Picture Perfect,” this Friday at 6 pm.

Picture Perfect: May 26 - A Star for Jerry

On May 9, Jerry Goldsmith finally received his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.  Goldsmith, the composer of over 200 film and television scores, died in 2004 at the age of 75.  Join Ross Amico for selections from four of Goldsmith’s classic scores, for “Patton,” “Chinatown,” “The Wind and the Lion,” and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”.

The Force is strong with this one.  The original “Star Wars” was released for the first time in theaters on May 25, 1977.  Needless to say, the film became a pop cultural phenomenon that went on to assume mythological proportions.  Join Ross Amico as he looks back fondly over 40 years to the original soundtrack release of John Williams’ influential music.
