Airing on the second Sunday and Wednesday of each month, Piano Excursions celebrates the broadest range of jazz piano, hosted by Jed Distler, the Classical Network's Artist-in-Resident, and host of the 2017 ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys.

The Birds and The Bees will be the topic for this week's edition of Between the Keys, hosted by Jed Distler, Artist in Residence for The Classical Network, including works by Amy Beach, Olivier Messaien, Maurice Ravel, Rued Langgaard, Bela Bartok, Franz Schubert and others. Join The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler this Saturday, December 2nd at 1:00 PM for Kids on Keys, a program showcasing talented young pianists from the south and central New Jersey area. The featured artists are Samuel, Cronk, Alena Zhang, Sherwin Pan, Christina Dai and Christopher Pan, plus Robert Argasinki, a young composer and pianist.

This week on Between the Keys, Jed Distler celebrates the centenary of one of America's most gifted yet least known pianists, Sidney Foster. Distler's special guest will be internationally renowned concert pianist Alberto Reyes, who studied with Foster, and has devoted much time to promoting  his mentor's legacy.

The program features live concert performances of Sidney Foster in works by Chopin, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Godowsky, Schelling, Liszt and Weber.

The big question on the day after Thanksgiving: What do we do with the leftovers? Answer: Simply create another great meal! And that's what Jed Distler has been up to this week.

"When I put together an episode for Between the Keys each week," Jed says, "I often wind up with more music than I'm allowed within our time frame. So I decided to search past episodes for selections that got bumped, the 'leftovers,' if you will, and from them I've created a very nice program. They're not just leftovers, they're yummy additions to any excellent musical meal!"

This episode is devoted to piano homages and tributes spanning two centuries, with a wide variety of music by Czerny, Ravel, Debussy, Robert Helps, Vladimir Dukelsky, Elton John, Queen and lots more.

The Piano Matters concludes its three-week tribute to Glenn Gould this Wednesday (10/11) at 10 pm. While the first two programs in this series focused on Gould's performance of Bach works, this week's looks at the pianist's approach to other composers. Host David Dubal and guest host, pianist and writer Benjamin Laude, explore Gould's recordings of music by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Scriabin, Schoenberg and more.

Join Jed Distler on Tuesday night at 10 for the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys. The show's focus will be on Michael Tippett's epic five-movement Piano Sonata No. 4. Written in 1983 and 1984, the work runs the gamut from brilliantly virtuosic to achingly lyrical, from giddy momentum to dark introspection. The work will be heard in a recording by Steven Osborne. Also featured on this episode are keyboard works by the Elizabethan master John Bull, with pianist Alan Feinberg.

The Piano Matters continues its tribute to the legendary Glenn Gould this Wednesday (10/4) at 10 pm, turning the spotlight on Bach's Goldberg Variations.

Host David Dubal welcomes fellow pianist, scholar and writer Benjamin Laude, who received his Masters and Doctorate from Juilliard, as his special guest they discuss Gould's style and survey various recordings.
