For this week’s episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler offers a stylistically diverse bag of works.
“Sometimes the works I've selected relate to one another easily,” explains Distler, “yet a few items were included simply because I wanted to share some wonderful pieces that I recently discovered.”
“Take Einar Englund’s ‘Introduzione e Toccata,’ for example. You may not know this work, yet it’s a really imaginative and substantial piano showpiece. I discovered it recently, and felt that I had to share it with listeners right away!”
Distler also juxtaposes Bach/Vivaldi and the young composer Andrew Shapiro, as well as finding common links between Tischenko, Rachmaninov and Liszt. However, rather than describe the program further. Distler would rather let the music speak for itself. “Just trust me, and allow yourself to embark on the musical journey.”
Tune in for Between the Keys Episode No. 303 this Tuesday April 13th at 10 PM with a rebroadcast Wednesday April 14th at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org.
