What is perhaps not so widely known is that jazz titan Dave Brubeck was a pupil of Darius Milhaud. His cantata, “The Gates of Justice,” grew out of the composer’s social consciousness and a belief in the brotherhood of man. The work employs characteristics of Jewish and African American traditions. Brubeck, himself a devout Catholic, appears as pianist. Cantor Alberto Mizrahi and baritone Kevin Deas come together, this Sunday at 10 pm.
