Jean-Yves Thibaudet on Between the Keys/June 19th

This week's edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys features internationally acclaimed pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in both words and music.

Thibaudet recently became the Boston Symphony Orchestra's first artist in residence, and discussued this prestigious honor with the Classical Network's first artist in residence and Between the Keys' host Jed Distler, along with memories of his legendary mentor Aldo Ciccolini, and much more. Thibaudet has been touring with the Boston Symphony this season performing Leonard Bernstein's "The Age of Anxiety" for piano and orchestra, in celebration of the composer/conductor's centenary.

"Jean-Yves and I met in 1996 when the Decca labe hired me to arrange and transcribe music for the CD project Conversations with Bill Evans," Distler recalls. "Of course I had known Jean-Yves' artistry since hearing him for the first time after he won the Young Artists Competition in 1981, and was a long time fan. Yet working with him in close proximity, I was floored by his extraordinary musicianship, lightening quick mind, and an attention to detail that was precise without being rigid. And what a sense of humor! I'm so happy that he was able to take time from his busy schedule to appear on Between the Keys as my guest."

Musical selections include works by Chopin, Liszt, Puccini, Debussy, Bernstein and Bill Evans. Listen live at 10 PM, Tuesday June 19th.
