This week on the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler features recordings by the legendary Russian pianist Sviatoslav Richter (1915-1997)
“Richter was one of the 20th century’s most revered and enigmatic pianists,” Distler says. “He shunned the limelight and hated the microphone, yet he left behind an immense and highly scrutinized body of recorded work. One program can hardly scratch the surface, yet I think this particular episode will give an idea of Richter’s strengths and, yes, his quirks. He always draws you in to his sound world.”
