A Plethora of Preludes on Between the Keys Feb. 15 and 16

For Episode 347 of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler offers what he calls “A Plethora of Preludes” by a wide variety of composers.

“I presented an all-Preludes episode three years ago that barely scratched this genre’s surface,” Distler says. “Neither does this belated follow-up episode scratch the surface, because there are more piano Preludes in the world than grains of sand!”

In addition to many short Preludes by composers including Francis Pott, Karol Szymanowski, Nikolai Kapustin, William
Alwyn, Frederick Delius and Dorothy Parrish, Distler will include Liszt’s Symphonic Poem “Les Preludes” in a solo piano transcription. “True, ‘Les Preludes’ isn’t technically a Prelude, or even a group of Preludes,” Distler admits, “yet perhaps the title implies otherwise?”

Tune into Between the Keys this Tuesday February 15th at 10:00 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday February 16th at noon, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.org
