On this week's episode of the ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, The Classical Network's Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler features Debussy's "Suite Bergamasque" and Brahms' Fantasien Op. 116, with a different pianist for each piece.
By creating "ideal" cycles, Jed does not mean to imply that these are the best recordings of each individual piece. "That would be impossible," Jed says, "simply because there are too many excellent recordings from which to use. I merely choose performances I like, and I make a point of not repeating any pianist. In a few instances, I'll feature two different pianists in the same piece."
So who is playing what? "You'll have to tune in," says Jed. However, here's a list of whom you should expect to hear during the program, in no particular order:
Dinu Lipatti, Richard Goode, Julius Katchen, Daniel Ericourt, Livia Rev, Leonard Pennario, Gerhard Oppitz, Vladimir Feltsman, Wilhelm Backhaus, Stephen Kovacevich, Arthur Rubinstein, Norma Fisher, Livia Revm Leon Fleisher and Emanuel Ax.
