The Dress Circle: Title Songs from Shows with One-Word Titles

We’re happy to be featuring another interesting mix on this week’s Dress Circle (4/24 7:00 p.m.) as we look at a selection of title songs from musicals. However, these are all musicals with one-word titles!

The playlist includes some familiar works such as “Annie,” “Mame,” “Oliver!”, “Gigi,” and “Dreamgirls,” but we’ll also be looking at some songs from shows that you may have missed such as “Flahooley,” about a doll that makes people laugh and comes under attack by the government, “Billy,” based on Keith Waterhouse’s novel “Billy Lilar,” “Budgie,” about a small-time con-man working as a barker in London’s Soho, and “Sherry!”, a musicalization of “The Man Who Came to Dinner.”

Some of the other lesser-known works include “Purlie” which was based on Ossie Davis’ “Purlie Victorious” and “Christine,” a vehicle for Maureen O’Hara with a book by Pearl S. Buck loosely based on Hilda Werhner’s novel “My Indian Family.”

There are others, but you’ll just have to tune in to see who we’ve chosen. Join us for another pleasant evening of good music.
