We’re looking at the second part of our program showcasing the recordings of the Ohio Light Opera on this week’s Dress Circle (7/17 7:00 p.m.), and this time, it’s a program featuring scores by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.

Along with some of the better-known works of this popular pair beginning with “The Mikado” which had the longest run in London of any of their shows and has appeared on Broadway some 33 times, you’ll hear selections from “The Gondoliers” and “Patience.”

Some of the works that aren’t as well-known include Michael’s favorite G&S operetta titled “Ruddigore” as well as selections from “The Yeomen of the Guard” and “The Sorcerer.”

We’ve even got two selections from the last collaboration of Gilbert and Sullivan which never made it to Broadway. The show is titled “The Grand Duke,” and it was new to both Ted and Michael.

If you’re a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan or aren’t at all familiar with them, this week’s show will hopefully offer you some familiar and unfamiliar songs to fill another happy hour of music.
