The Dress Circle: Celebrating 40

In the spring of 1983, the first rustlings of what would become The Dress Circle appeared on-air at the Classical Network. After a great deal of tweaking, reworking, and re-re-re-recording, it finally became the program you hear each Sunday evening. On this week’s Dress Circle (2/19 7:00 p.m.), we’re going to be throwing ourselves a bit of a birthday celebration as we embark on our 40th year as volunteer hosts.

After talking about several different ways we might do this, we decided to look at musicals that were playing on Broadway during 1983.

Some of the shows we’ve chosen opened before 1983 like “Pump Boys and Dinettes,” “Evita,” and “Woman of the Year.”

The bulk of the shows, however opened, and many closed, during 1983. They include “Baby,” “La Cage aux Folles,” “Doonesbury,” “Zorba,” “The Tap Dance Kid,” a revival of “Mame,” and “Dance a Little Closer” which opened and closed on the same night.

Join us as we celebrate our longevity and being the longest running program on The Classical Network with some excellent and varied performances.
