Famed Conductor Fennell Dies at 90

Frederick Fennell -- a legendary conductor and educator, and major figure in the American music scene -- died Tuesday, Dec. 7, at his home in Siesta Key, Fla.

Acclaimed for his musicality and interpretive abilities, Fennell was widely considered to be among the first conductors to apply those techniques to music for band. He was 90 years old.

NPR's Fred Child talks with Dallas Wind Symphony artistic director Jerry Junkin, a long-time colleague and friend of Fennell.
