Graffman Steps Down After 20 Years at Curtis Institute

The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia has produced a host of accomplished and influential classical artists over more than eight decades, among them composers Leonard Bernstein and Ned Rorem.

For the past 20 years, president and director Gary Graffman has nurtured talent ranging from violinist Hilary Hahn to tenor Juan Diego Florez and many, many more. After all, he began his career as a piano professor, and he never gave up his love of teaching.

Now Graffman, 77, will give up his administrative posts and focus on teaching again. He talks to Liane Hansen about his career move.
