A Tempo: Remembering Composer George Walker

Composer and pianist George Walker passed away August 23 at the age of 96, and this Saturday's A Tempo (9/1 at 7 pm) looks at his life and legacy. Host Rachel Katz will speak with his son, violinist and composer Gregory Walker, about his works and his accomplishments, which included the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1996 (the first African-American to receive the award) and commissions for the New York Phlharmonic, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others. This week's program also includes some reminiscences from Larry Tamburri, former President and CEO of the New Jersey Orchestra, which premiered some of Walker's pieces and will pay tribute to him at its opening concert weekend in October.

Rachel Katz is the host of A Tempo which airs Saturdays at 7 pm.
