Like many other musical ensembles, members of the U.S. Army Field Band have found new outlets to reach the public through their music after the Covid-19 epidemic pre-empted their regular touring schedule. Instead, they are presenting daily livestreamed concerts called "We Stand Ready,"
showcasing the musical talents of the singers and instrumentalists who make up the band’s ensembles - everything from solo vocal concerts and Broadway cabarets to opera arias and Latin jazz. Today, the band will wrap up a special four-day Memorial Day Weekend series called “Remembering America’s Heroes" at 1 pm ET and a special broadcast of Taps at 3 pm.
Moorestown, NJ native Sgt. 1st Class Michaela Shelton, who graduated from Rutgers University and the Eastman School of Music and a member of soldier’s chorus in the Army Field Band, talks about the series and her role leading a children's chorus.
