Songs of Resilience
Songs of Resilience
This World Refugee Day (June 20), at 7 p.m., join acclaimed composer Sheila Silver and a celebrated group of classical musicians for the premiere of Songs of Resilience, a concert of original songs rooted in the crises shaping this moment – immigration detention, displacement, political resistance, and more. Each penned by a different author, the songs form a collective plea for sanity, empathy, and healing, while grappling with courage, conscience, and the weight of moral reckoning.
All ticket proceeds will benefit organizations supporting immigrants and families of immigrants detained at Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey. Beneficiaries include First Friends of New Jersey and New York, Cosecha, and St. George's Episcopal Church’s immigrant relief initiatives.
Songs of Resilience is co-produced by Silver, renowned operatic soprano Melissa Citro, and PROTESTRA. The concert will run approximately 80 minutes, with a reception to follow.
