The writer and scholar Mark Ainley returns to the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys on Tuesday March 19th, for an extended conversation with the show’s creator, producer and host Jed Distler, who is The Classical Network’s Artist-in-Resience.”
“Actually, when Mark visited my studio last year, we wound up recording much more material than could fit within just one episode. Our conversation just went on and on, as is what you’d expect from a pair of piano maniacs!,” admits Distler. “Since March 19th happens to be Dinu Lipatti’s birthday (he would have been 102!), and Mark is the world’s leading Lipatti scholar, we’ll zero in on some of Lipatti’s rare recordings, along with performances by piano legends Marcelle Meyer and Jorge Bolet.”
Ainley’s insights into the importance of historic recordings will enlighten both new listeners and seasoned collectors alike, who are directed to visit his popular Facebook page, The Piano Files with Mark Ainley, a treasure trove of recordings, photos, programs, essays and other documents celebrating great pianists of the past.
Listen to Between the Keys this Tuesday March 19th at 10 PM, exclusively on The Classical Network and WWFM.Org, and proudly sponsored by Jacobs Music Company.
