New, Old & Unexpected Music on Between the Keys July 13th and 14th

“Whenever I put together a ‘New Old & Unexpected’ episode for Between the Keys, I imagine myself going on a journey without a map, and just my two feet in front of me.  One piece of music suggests another, or perhaps throws me into an unrelated area. Who knows?”

Although the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler often comes up with themes for each episode of his ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys, he gets a special pleasure out of putting together shows that seemingly create themselves. “Sometimes I wish I was in the ‘free-form’ radio business,” Distler says. “At the same time, it’s easier to mix and match the new, the old and the unexpected within this program’s time frame. For instance, I knew that I wanted to start with Frescobaldi and conclude with Satie’s Parade. Yet what to put in the middle? That’s when the adventure began!.”

For his ninth “New Old & Unexpected” Between the Keys episode, Distler indeed uses Frescobaldi and Satie to bookend works by New York legend Moondog, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner, William Susman, Sergei Prokofiev, Richard Wagner and one surprise that Distler leaves unannounced for the time being.

Tune into Between the Keys Episode 316, Tuesday July 13th at 10 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday July 14th at noon, exclusively on The Classi cal Network and WWFM.org.
