Last year the Classical Network’s Artist-in-Residence Jed Distler learned about a CD debut from a pianist named Steven Spooner. What was unusual was that this release contained fifteen CDs and one DVD.
“I had heard some of Steven’s playing on David Dubal’s program The Piano Matters,” Jed said. “It was big piano playing, with a luminous sound, and so communicative and generous.” When Jed got a copy of the box and got to hear more of Steven’s playing, he just knew that this protean pianist would be a perfect guest for Between the Keys, and, in fact, has featured selections from the set on previous episodes.
“Steven is certainly an impressive musician on every level, yet the way he presents himself and his music making does not emphasize performing as much as sharing, and creating a palpable sense of community where the pianist, the audience and the music are on equal footing.”
Steven Spooner will be the featured guest on this week’s edition of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Virgil Thomson Award winning Between the Keys, with Jed Distler. Listen Tuesday night September 18th at 10, on WWFM.org.
