The Sunday Opera: Alexander Zemlinsky's "Der Traumgorge" or "The Dream of Gorge"
It took 80 years for Zemlinsky's fairy tale opera to be performed after it was suppressed by an unscrupulous conductor. Gorge is a dreamer who dreams of a better life that comes true for a happy ending.
The Sunday Opera: Johann Simon Mayr's "Le due duchesse"
This week's opera is from the pen of a forgotten master who was the teacher of Donizetti, inspiration of Rossini, and author of nearly 70 operas, Johann Simon Mayr. The opera is 1814's “Le due duchesse ossia La caccia dei lupi” (“The Two Duchesses or The Hunt of the Wolves”) in its 2017 world premier recording.
The Sunday Opera: Franz Lehar's "The Merry Widow" from Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts

Our second look at the story of Manon Lescaut continues from the Teatro Regio on this week’s Sunday Opera (8/3 3:00 p.m.) with Massanet’s treatment of the story by Antoine Prevost. In this one, Manon doesn’t die in the wilderness or desert of Louisiana, she dies of exhaustion on the road to Le Havre to be deported.

This week's opera comes from a British composer who was considered to be one of the finest proponents of British national music, George Alexander Macfarren. The opera is "Robin Hood" and features a cast headed by Nicky Spense and Kay Jordan as Robin and Marian.
