The Sunday Opera: Douglas Moore's "The Ballad of Baby Doe" with Beverly Sills
This week's opera features the 1958 recording of Douglas Moore's "The Ballad of Baby Doe." The libretto by John Latouche sets the story of Elizabeth "Baby" Doe (Beverly Sills) and her scandalous marriage to Horace Tabor (William Cassel), the richest man in 19th century Leadville, Colorado to Moore's moving and charming score.

This week's opera is a spirited performance of Rameau's first "ballet-opera" looking at love conquering various obstacles.

The Sunday Opera: Bohuslav Martinu's "Julietta"
Desire versus reality on this week’s Sunday Opera (3/15 3:00 p.m.) as we look to a 1938 work by Bohuslav Martinu that was based on a French surrealist play by Georges Neveux entitled “Juliette, or the Key of Dreams.” “Julietta” is the object of desire of a travelling bookseller, and he travels to the world of dreams to find her, even though he’s never seen her. He’s just heard her singing.
The Sunday Opera: Antonin Dvorak's "Die Jakobiner" ("The Jacobin")
Antonin Dvorak is the featured composer on this week’s Sunday Opera (3/23 3:00 p.m.), and it’s not “Rusalka”! Instead, we’re turning to his “pastoral comedy” entitled “Die Jakobiner” (“The Jacobin”). This intimate look at the relationship between a father and son which has been soured by false information and innuendo.
