Oral History Project Captures 50 Years of American Opera

Just over two years ago, Opera American launched an effort to document the past 50 years of American opera by collecting oral histories. Now, after some delay because of the pandemic, the organization has posted the first of 75 planned interviews, featuring conversations with luminaries including mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, director Francesca Zambelllo, composer Anthony Davis, and bass-baritone Sherrill Milnes.

A Tempo host Rachel Katz this week interviews Opera American President and CEO Marc Scorca, who conducted the interviews, and Paul Guibao, chair of the Arthur F. and Alice E. Adams Charitable Foundation, which funded the project.
